Choosing a Business Printer

If you are shopping for a business printer for your company or organization, we’re here to help. You know what your business requirements are and the printing tasks that you need to accomplish. Vecmar knows how to help you select the right printer for the task. The following information is to provide you with the basics on business printing to help you in your search.

Types of Business Printing

Business printing is generally thought of as high-volume and high-speed, requiring printers that are powerful and rugged. There are 3 basic types of business printers for the wide variety of business printing tasks. These three types are dot matrix, line and laser printers.

Dot Matrix or Impact Printers

Dot matrix printers, known also as impact printers, represent the oldest printing technology.
A dot matrix printer uses pins and a ribbon to form images out of dots. The most common dot matrix printers, also known as serial dot matrix use one or two columns of pins that are moved across the paper. Dot matrix printers are widely used to print multipart forms, address and diskette labels. The tractor and sprocket mechanisms used in these printers are built to handle thicker multi-part forms. Vecmar carries Dot Matrix printers from Lexmark, Okidata, and Tally-Genicom.

Line Matrix Impact Printers

A line matrix printer is an impact printer that prints a line at a time. Printronix pioneered this technology in 1974. Line matrix printers can print graphics, whereas serial dot matrix printers cannot. The print mechanism is a row of dot hammers that is almost as wide as the page. Line matrix printers offer medium resolution, monochrome printing with a very low ribbon cost. They also provide high speed. Line matrix printers can exist in harsh conditions and are often found in warehouses and other industrial environments. At Vecmar, you will find a complete lineup of Line matrix printers from Printronix, Okidata, and Tally-Genicom.

Laser Printing

A laser printer is a printer that uses a laser and the electro photographic method to print a full page at a time. Laser printer resolution is typically from 300 to 1200 dpi.

Also in the class of laser printers are LED printers. These printers use an array of LEDs to beam the image onto the drum, and electron beam imaging (ion deposition) creates the image with electricity rather than light. LED printers are usually less expensive to purchase than laser printers.

If you need a laser or LED printer you will find it at Vecmar. We have many models of laser printers manufactured by Okidata, Tally-Genicom, and Lexmark, with the features that are right for your business.
